Jake's Place opens on Gaines School Road; The Jollof Place joins the Eastside

Sunday, September 13, 2026

Jeff Stover and his wife opened Jake's Place, a casual American restaurant named after their son, in the Ansonborough development at 1040 Gaines School Road on Athens' Eastside. It's open seven days a week from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner staples.

The restaurant's branding touts "local farm to table." Right now that means a partnership with Market Fresh, a family-owned business out of Statham that works directly with small farms around the Athens area. The owners plan to expand their locally sourced ingredients over time.

Also new on the Eastside: The Jollof Place, a West African grocery store and restaurant at 2826 Lexington Road. Plates run about $25, with options from vegetarian to chicken, beef, fish, and goat.
