Georgia Seeks to Turn Unused Timber Into Jet Fuel

Wednesday, October 28, 2026

Delta Air Lines, together with a group of Georgia agriculture and business leaders, is exploring a plan to strengthen the state's timber industry by converting unused wood into jet fuel. Tim Lowrimore, President and CEO of the Georgia Forestry Association, says the past few years have been difficult for one of the state's leading industries. Hurricane Helene, paper mill closures, and falling demand for paper products have all struck the forestry sector. Lowrimore says about 8,000,000 tons of wood grown in the state is no longer being used by facilities or mills. The story originally appeared on Georgia CEO and is also covered by WABE.
